The EP contains six songs, all containing Steindór Andersen reciting rímur, a metric style of traditional Icelandic poetry, with musical accompaniment by Sigur Rós in three songs. In 2001, Sigur Rós celebrated the foundation of his studio with the recording of an EP featuring an Icelandic fisherman named Steindór Andersen. Īfter the release of Ágætis byrjun, the band became better known for the unique way in which Birgisson plays his guitar : with a cello bow, accentuated by a reverb, creating a unique, floating effect.

The name of the band is the name of Jónsi’s sister, Sigurrós, who was born on the same day that the band was formed. Jón Þór (Jónsi) Birgisson, Georg Hólm and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson formed the band in Reykjavík in January 1994. From there to the present day, the band has released seven studio albums, the most recent work being released in 2018, “Route One” The band’s activities began on January 4, 1994.
Some of his contemporaries are Múm and Amiina, both from the same creative and vibrant scene in Iceland ‘s post rock. The band is known for its ethereal sound and the falsetto of the vocalist, Jónsi. The name, in Icelandic, means “victory rose”, and is pronounced “sigur rous”, or in the International Phonetic Alphabet.
